About This Site
Welcome to TheMattBlack.com.
I’m a filmmaker living in Salt Lake City. I’ve used this blog over the past several years as a sketchbook of sorts to try out different visual ideas.
A lot of the more recent posts are low quality phone video I took as part of an experimental map project you can access by clicking on the “SLC Interactive Map” button at the top of the page.
If you go back further into the archive you’ll find the Video Sketchbook proper which is a project I started in 2007. I decided to try to post 30-90 seconds of video every day. I ended up with 118 entries. I’m currently working on compiling an abridged version of the sketchbook into a dvd that will bring together the more interesting entries into something you might actually watch in one sitting..
A few of my favorite video sketches include:
Sketch #3: Saw
Sketch #6: Penguins
Sketch #11: Disembark
Sketch #14: Lighthouse
Sketch #30: Footbridge
Sketch #41: Rain
Sketch #43: Pho Lunch
Sketch #78: Tulips
Sketch #93: Window Washer Up Close
Sketch #96: Glass Elevator
Sketch #98: Good Game
Sketch #103: Twilight Mannequin
